The Children’s Hospital of Alabama

CRS Engineering and Design Consultants, Inc. is in various stages of design on several projects at The Children’s Hospital of Alabama, according to CRS president Ken Cater.
CRS is providing contract administration for a new serving line and dining area. The 4,560-square foot area, on the first floor of the main hospital, includes seating for 225 diners. CRS also provided design services for a 7,630-square foot kitchen.
The company is in the design development stage on renovation plans in the Park Place South building for relocation of the human resources, strategic business development, fundraising, volunteer services and Magic Moment’ offices.
CRS is also providing contract administration during the construction of the 8,515-square foot renovation and expansion of the seventh floor southeast Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The expansion will add 20 beds to the existing NICU, located on the sixth floor.
J. D. Hornbuckle of CRS is the project manager. Other CRS professionals on the projects include: John Gill, principal in charge; Sam Dunn, lighting design; David Huddleston, telecommunication and security; Mack Waggoner, staff electrical engineer; David Hitechew, electrical design; Charles Foshee, plumbing design, and Richard Stehr, fire protection design.
Giattina Aycock Architectural Studios is the project architect and Brice Building Company is the general contractor.
CRS Engineering and Design Consultants is a 32-year old firm based in Birmingham that specializes in commercial, healthcare, institutional and religious buildings. CRS performs services in electrical engineering, plumbing engineering, fire protection engineering, mechanical and HVAC engineering, lighting design, telecommunication design and security systems design.
The firm also has a Huntsville office.
