Tutwiler Hotel

Birmingham, Ala.-CRS Engineering and Design Consultants, Inc. has completed construction documents for a new fire alarm system and eighth floor renovations for the Tutwiler Hotel in downtown Birmingham, Alabama.
According to Ken Cater, PE, principal in charge for CRS, the eighth floor renovations include electrical and mechanical engineering, plumbing design and fire protection design to convert guest accommodations to suites and to add a breakfast area.
CRS has also completed design for a complete new fire alarm system in the eight story hotel. The present system is being replaced with a new analog addressable system that will display a unique address for each origination point and also includes strobe lights and speakers to provide emergency exiting instructions.
Construction is expected to begin in July with completion slated for December.
Hendon and Huckestein is the architectural firm on the project and Keeton General Contractors, Inc. is the project contractor.
CRS professionals on the Tutwiler team include O. Wade Parker, project manager and electrical engineering designer; Don Kitchens, PE, mechanical engineering and plumbing design; Richard Stehr, PE, fire protection design, and Jason Blocker, project coordinator.
CRS Engineering and Design Consultants is a 30-year old firm based in Birmingham that specializes in commercial, healthcare, institutional and religious buildings. CRS performs services in electrical engineering, plumbing engineering, fire protection engineering, mechanical and HVAC engineering, lighting design, telecommunication design and security systems design.
